Santa Monica-based rich media advertising technology developer Jetpack is expanding in New York, saying this week that it has opened up a new office New York City, and hired a new VP in the location. Jetpack develops advertising technology which is used to help publishers deliver advertising using HTML5, responsive and other tools.

It’s central standard was HTML (hyper text markup language) that described how we would show data on computer screens. When web browsers (the programs that can read and interpret HTML) were popularized they were “dumb.”

The technology behind the effect has since increased to HTML 5 canvas thus increase in commercial tools for that exact purpose.

The Internet and World Wide Web themselves emerged from open protocols (HTTP, HTML, SMTP, etc) that allowed businesses, individuals and governments to put information online that was accessible to the masses and then to build applications on top of this infrastructure to the benefit of the masses. We’ll have to see how it all plays out.
