Southern California--and particularly, Los Angeles--has become somewhat of a startup accelerator/incubator hub over the last couple of years, as more than a dozen startup accelerators, incubators, coworking spaces , and more have set up shop in the area.
These days it’s Santa Monica and Venice. So we’ve seen an explosion in the number of startup companies and subsequently a huge burst in the number of incubators. In LA the VC shift is clearly to Santa Monica / Venice, home of Rustic Canyon, Greycroft, Anthem and just about every incubator (Amplify, Launchpad, Mucker, Science).
We had such a great response from July’s TZ Tech Crawl Silicon Beach Santa Monica edition, that we decided to get another one in before the summer was out and this time focus around the Venice area. Walmart’s tech incubator in Silicon Valley, Store No 8, has acquired Spatialand , a virtual reality software firm, as its third portfolio company.
