The City of Long Beach will be the site of a new, 400 megawatt-hour battery-based energy storage system , as part of Southern California Edison's (SCE) support of California's clean energy efforts, according to power plant operator AES Alamitos.

The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, which has been docked at the International Space Station (ISS) for the last month, successfully returned to earth on Saturday morning, and headed back to Long Beach for further processing. Long Beach-based Virgin Orbit attempted the first launch of its LauncherOne rocket on Monday, dropping and igniting the rocket--which failed to make it to space. Virgin Orbit did not say when it will attempt another launch, but said its next rocket is in final stages of integration at its Long Beach manufacturing.

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab is attempting another launch today, at 5:44pm PST, from its launch site in New Zealand. The mission, "Return to Sender", will include the first attempt to recover the first stage booster of the company's rocket, which would enable it to lower the costs of launching payloads.
