Last week, Los Angeles-based Stroome (www.stroome.com), a new startup originally spawned out of a project at the USC Annenberg School of Communications, won $200,000 in the 2010 Knight News Challenge. Tom Grasty: Essentially, we started off as a graduate school project at USC. A few months later, we won the USC New Venture Competition.

We were looking at it, and saw that if we could take all these off-the-shelf sensors, and put it all together, and write some code, and make a user interface, it''s basically done. After two years, Alfred Mann decided to give money to USC for the effort instead. I think we''ll be ready for the report, and we''re on track for that.

It has been reported by Google that 77% of viewers use a companion device while watching TV.

I read reports this week that when he was unhappy with some actions of his players he sent in an emissary to deal with them because he didn’t have the time or patience to deal with the drama that comes from having talented, high-paid professionals with opinions (as opposed to college players who have little choice). I like writing.
