There''s just simply no way that the founder or the management or anyone with equity in the company, besides the investor with a six-x liq pref (liquidation preference), could make any money. Instead, Adeo has created a liquidity pool of equity which is shared with all graduates from the Institute. It is a crowdsourced, review portal.

Founded in November 2007 in New York City by Alexis Maybank and Kevin Ryan (co-founder of DoubleClick); CEO is Susan Lyne (ex-CEO Marta Stewart Living Omnimedia) Revenue estimates: $50mm in 2008; $170mm in 2009 (versus budget of $150mm); $450mm forecasted for 2010.

We had the chance to talk with co-founder John Tomich about the funding and the firm, which operates e-commerce sites for fashion brands and others. We started getting approached by venture capital and private equity, and we have eight figures in revenue. We also just launched a site for Lululemon which makes athletic apparel.

Michael is a very accomplished corporate executive in his own right having run Sega Gameworks and helped IPO EuroDisney as well as having been on the founding team of DreamWorks SKG (where he helped them raise their first $900 million in equity). Woot was one of the first one-per-day item sales site with a humorous and not always PC content.
