Team members seem to be spending more and more time venting to anyone who will listen about the motives and actions of others, and less time introspectively focused on their own productivity and accountability. The personal preferences and ego of anyone in the company has little to do long-term business success and satisfaction.

These challenges, with recommendations for addressing them, were detailed nicely for me in a new book, “ The Boomerang Principle ,” by Lee Caraher, who has built several companies, and has helped many others manage Millennials, reduce turnover, and improve satisfaction and the return hire rate. Thus mentoring inspires loyalty all around.

Thus most investors I know claim to invest in the person, rather than the product. In the same way, you may think that people assessment is all about skills and experience, but as a mentor to business owners, I have learned to look more for the right attitude, persistence, and determination, as success factors.

Otherwise don’t let guilt trick you into thinking you are actually doing something productive for you. If yes, apologize, then do better.
