I recently posted about the Increase in Early-Stage Startup Activity in Los Angeles. I realized that it has been a little while since I posted about the Los Angeles Startup Community and so needed to update my list of startup events that will be out of date almost before I finish publishing it.
I've helped organize the Los AngelesCTO Forum for almost 10 years. As part of doing that, I've had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of different chief technical officers from different kinds of companies over those years. Yes, there are some events around particular technologies.

Zynga , the high flying social gaming firm behind the popular Farmville social game, appears to be ramping up its recruiting efforts in Los Angeles. The firm, which said last year that it had selected Los Angeles for an expanded recruiting effort, recently posted a position for a ChiefTechnologyOfficer, based in Los Angeles.
Several people have recently come to me to help them source and/or hire full-time CTOs for their startup having found me through my post that looks at: Startup CTO Salary and Equity Data. The first thing I do is suggest they explore if they really need to hire a full-time CTO for their startup and if so, what kind of CTO they need.
Todd Gitlin of Safire Partners - a go to resource here in LA for recruiting C-level positions at startups - was nice enough to compile some data again this year (see last year's Startup CTO Salary and Equity Data ). Or they are looking at Hiring a CTO and want to see what salary and equity ranges look like. It has not.
This is purely anecdotal, but it seems like a lot of companies are hiring technology talent here in SouthernCalifornia. I’ll be curious to see if that bears up at our Los AngelesCTO Forum meeting tomorrow. I’ve recently seen several tweets from software development companies looking for talent.

Santa Monica-based GoodRx , a venture-backed startup which runs a prescription drug pricing marketplace, has named Jody Mulkey as the company's ChiefTechnologyOfficer. The crowd of more than 1,500 spilled out into hallways, and would-be investors were turned away from the doors, as a crush of entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, wanna-be entrepreneurs, and others looked to be part of the surge of startups emerging in Los Angeles.

So my flip suggestion was actually not all that helpful. In fact, after a bit he gave up.

Los Angeles-based Acclaim Games , a developer of casual and social networking games, has been acquired by Mountain View-based Playdom , Playdom said Tuesday evening. Playdom said the acquisition would also give it access to the game development talent in SouthernCalifornia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
