Much has been written about when it is time to hire a “professional CEO” to run a startup company and of course that has long been a norm in Silicon Valley when founders find that their inexperience may be a limiting factor in company growth ( know as the Peter Principle ). It now seems that Mark is more firmly in control.

If you haven’t read Reed’s explanation of this split make sure you read it (of course, after you’re done with this post ) —> here. He acknowledged mistakes in his past communications and apologized. He defines this as new products that are dramatically cheaper, lower quality, lower margin but larger markets.

You’ll have no idea when you’re off course. I see this mistake all the time, actually. I’m guessing this was also the case over the first few year’s of Zynga’s growth on Facebook. Once they knew how much money they could make with virtual goods / customer then they seemed to buy up much of the Facebook ad inventory.
