A good many startups I know have been “successful” over a couple of years in overcoming the challenges of starting the business, including incorporation, services development, funding, and setting up operations. Maintenance contracts are another great way to create a brand-new revenue stream. Raise the marketing bar.

We worked together at Andersen Consulting between 1996-99 when the markets were booming. See, Mark, in a booming market you can never tell the winners from the losers.

The new hot topic for entrepreneurs the last couple of years is crowd funding, which is anticipated to at least supplement, if not replace, the slow and mysterious process of current Angel and venture capital investors. It has had some notable successes for entrepreneurs (over $1M in funding), as well as non-starters.
