Machinima , which had been the poster child for Southern California's multi-channel-network (MCN) boom, has laid off most of its employees and ceased its operations , according to reports. The shutdown comes after a reorganization of the digital properties of AT&T, as well as its Otter Media subsidiary. Machinima had been acquired by Warner Bros. in 2016, in a deal then reported as worth less than $100M.

Aliso Viejo, California- and Kfar-Saba, Israel-based CathWorks , a developer of Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) medical equipment used in percutaneous coronary intervention, has raised $30M in a Series C funding round, the company announced late Monday. The funding was led by Deerfield Management. According to the company, which already has FDA 510(k) clearance for its medical device, the new funding paves the way for acceleration of its clinical and commercial activities in the United States.

ViaSat Power In-Flight Wireless For Italian Airline

Carlsbad-based satellite connectivity and equipment provider Viasat reported a win in Italy today, with Italian airline Neos and its fleet of new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. According to ViaSat, it will provides its in-flight connectivity services to the new Neos fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Financial details of the win were not announced. Neos has been operating the Boeing 787 since December of 2017.

The funding was led by Lead Edge Capital, and also included CRV, Index Ventures, Harrison Metal and OATV. According to the company, Lorrie Norrington of Lead Edge Capital joins the company's board with the funding round.

FloQast Wins WP Engine

Los Angeles-based accounting management software FloQast reported a win today with WordPress hosting service WP Engine. Financial details of the win were not announced. FloQast develops close management software for accountants. FloQast says WP Engine has more than $132M in annual recurring revenues. FloQast says its customers now include such companies as DoorDash, AdRoll, Indeed, Shopify, Ancestry.com, Twilio, Dollar Shave Club, Zillow and The Golden State Warriors.
