Locana Wins $550,000 Grant

San Diego-based gene therapy startup Locana has just received $550,000 in a grant, from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), according to the MDA. The award will go to advance Locana's development program for treating mytonic dystrophy (DM). According to the MDA, the grant came from its MDA Venture Philanthropy (MVP) grant program, which specifically funds drug development, discovery and clinical application of treatments and cures for neuromuscular disorders.

Bird Acquires Scoot

Santa Monica-based Bird announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Scoot , a San Francisco-based scooter service--giving Bird entry back into the San Francisco market, and also helping Bird scale out its operations. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. According to Bird, Scoot will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, and also help Bird offer more vehicles featuring the latest technology advancements for the sharing market.

Triton Digital Acquires Omny Studio

Tinder Agrees To Share Data With Russia

Los Angeles-based dating app developer Tinder has agreed to store data for its Russian users in Russia--and also allow the Russian government and intelligence agencies with that data, as part of an effort by the government there to force more tech companies to share data.
