Bird Acquires Scoot

Santa Monica-based Bird announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Scoot , a San Francisco-based scooter service--giving Bird entry back into the San Francisco market, and also helping Bird scale out its operations. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. According to Bird, Scoot will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, and also help Bird offer more vehicles featuring the latest technology advancements for the sharing market.

Locana Wins $550,000 Grant

San Diego-based gene therapy startup Locana has just received $550,000 in a grant, from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), according to the MDA. The award will go to advance Locana's development program for treating mytonic dystrophy (DM). According to the MDA, the grant came from its MDA Venture Philanthropy (MVP) grant program, which specifically funds drug development, discovery and clinical application of treatments and cures for neuromuscular disorders.

Triton Digital Acquires Omny Studio

Los Angeles-based Triton Digital , a provider of advertising services and technology for the online radio streaming, digital audio and podcasting markets, has acquired Omny Studio , a developer of a podcast and on-demand audio publishing platform. Financial terms of the acquisition were not annoucned. Omny Studio was based in Melbourne, Australia. According to Triton Digital, the entire team at Omny Studio has joined the company, after it acquired the technology, assets, and team of Omny.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike delivered the kind of market debut this week that was an unfulfilled dream for the much-anticipated IPOs of Uber and Lyft earlier this year. Sunnyvale, CA-based CrowdStrike (NASDAQ: CRWD ) priced 18 million shares of common stock at $34 on Tuesday. Trading began at $63.50 Wednesday, and reached a near-doubling of the company’s IPO price before settling down to close at $58 for a first-day bump of more than 70 percent.

Tinder Agrees To Share Data With Russia

Los Angeles-based dating app developer Tinder has agreed to store data for its Russian users in Russia--and also allow the Russian government and intelligence agencies with that data, as part of an effort by the government there to force more tech companies to share data. According to a report in Wired, Tinder was added by Russian communications censor Roskomnadzor to a list of 175 other companies who have agreed to share data with Russia.

According to Spireon, Skutta will head up a newly combined vehicle finance, Buy Here Pay Here, lender, and franchise dealer product offerings. Skutta previously was Executive Vice President of Dealer Sales and Service at TrueCar, and also has served at AutoAlert, VinSolutions and AutoTrader.com.
