We had gone out to all of the Hollywood studios, and licensed clip content, short segments of filmed. Those channels still exist today, and get around 200 million views a month--we ended up becoming one of the largest movie networks for video on the web. Hard to believe another Digital LA Silicon Beach Fest Hollywood is happening this week back-to-back with the new LA Tech Summit produced by Cornerstone. LA Tech Summit takes place the following day and takes a more comprehensive look at the entire tech eco-system in Los Angeles, not just Hollywood. This is the wave of the future.

But, there was no good for Hollywood to find them. I got to talking with Will Schroter, who was an old business associate of mine and old friend, and we thought it could be very interesting to create a place where Hollywood could reach out to find people. The startup--created by Robert Earl (Founder and CEO of Planet Hollywood), Grant Hosford (formerly of eHarmony), and Connell (formerly of Nokia)--is using the Internet to arrange group dates at local restaurants, to connect people in person and offline. We wanted to use the Internet to make things easy and help create initial connections.

So we did a one-day fall Silicon Beach Fest at io/LA in Hollywood. At the closing party, attendees kept saying "This is great! When's the next one?"

Despite the proximity to Hollywood and the entertainment world, in the world of Southern California startups, actually combining the two world is quite difficult.
