What I’d like to do is tell you the story of how the investment came to be, what my thesis is / was and share some thoughts on macro trends. I hope you’ll excuse me when I do the latter in combination with the former to try and explain how I see macro trends and help you think about the mind of a VC. He wanted to be an entrepreneur.

That popularity helped drive Instagram's recent acquisition by Facebook for $1 billion. Since my background is in environmental sciences, as well, I couldn't help noticing all of the things that hadn't been addressed properly. We think we're opening up another channel to help companies monetize.

There’s no doubt (at least anecdotally) that the pace of VC investments in early-stage technology companies has picked up in the past few months. But there are many zombie VC’s with no more investments left in their portfolios so it’s hard to know which trend has more impact. Because you have multiple forces at work.
