I recently had a conversation with an pre-launch startup where they discussed how SEO was going to be really important for them. And to me, there seems to be a lot of confusion by founders of startups around search engine optimization (SEO) and how it works for a startup. I won't say that I'm truly an expert on SEO.

I went to a meetup yesterday that was on the topic of Internet Marketing / SEO / SEM. What's interesting about that opinion is that there were people in the room who were more than happy to share their ideas around tools and techniques to use as part of the discussion. It felt like a bad time share presentation.

For anyone from California, you know there are vast differences between the northern and southern parts of the state – so vast in fact that, to us, they could just as easily stand alone as two separate states. He’s done several startups and is a board member of the Technology Council of Southern California (which is where I met him originally). However, as I read more about your focus, you are using these things in a slightly different way, i.e., not sure if SEO is as important. I recently posted about SEO for Startups.
