I continually face the challenge of designing and building registration / sign-up pages on a wide variety of different web sites and mobile applications. Here's a classic example that illustrates the issue - the sign-up page from Mahalo. At the heart of this is two main advantages of having socialnetwork sign-up / registration.
Let’s start with what I like most about the product. I was recently over at the Mahalo offices in Santa Monica and I noticed that they had a great big screen TV with Chartbeat displaying their traffic data. It’s fun when a story is blowing up to see the right hand side of your screen light up like a pinball machine.

His latest startup, Row 44, is providing hardware to Southwest Airlines and other airlines for wireless access, and has a number of announced wins.
Just having one of those days, when you need some help--ie your car broke down, you can't get to daycare to pick up your child, you've got a medical emergency? The app was created by startup veterans Mark Jeffrey and Chris Hayes. 911--to provide help.
We are also home to DemandMedia (Richard Rosenblatt) and Mahalo (Jason Calacanis). FreedomSpeaks is a startup developing a business around connecting people with information about their political representatives, and also enabling organizations and others to do the same. We caught up with Jason and Kurt to hear more about the company. What's the story behind the company and how it started? Jason Kiesel: Yes.
Why should a startup thinking about moving to a new place choose LA? Southern California companies are second to only Silicon Valley in raising venture capital , there are three major universities to recruit talent – UCLA, Caltech, and USC – and a thriving startup community to mingle with.
They also have a new management team, that’s headed up in part by Michael Jones (COO), the most all around talented internet executive I know. Having grown up in LA, and having started Docstoc down here, there’s a bit of a shared connection. This could also be done by leveraging a partnership (or buyout) of a site like Mahalo.
