Writing down key parameters will force you solidify the specifics, and mentally commit to them. Present at trade shows and network with your ten-slide pitch to build your following. Others may be so exciting that you will find multiple competitors fighting for the same space.

These have the benefit to VCs of not cross-collateralizing returns and to LPs of being able to know the underlying asset before they write the check. this seems like amongst the most valuable investment available because it’s not necessarily fully priced like a public-market investment. But there are clear pro’s and con’s.

I call this “arming & aiming&# your sales teams where you need to standardize both the assignment of territories, industries & accounts (aiming) as well as the process of selling, the collateral, the legal agreements & pricing. We moved toward more standardized pricing (e.g. less negotiating & haggling).

Let’s start with the money slide: 10 years ago there was about the same money pouring into VC as found its way into startups but in the past two years 2.5 Leaving aside China, oil prices, Syrian refugees, a presidential election and all of the things that might feed into general market fear – this chart is telling.
