The National Venture Capital Association today released a new report detailing the impact of venture capital on the U.S. The report , compiled for the NVCA by IHS Global Insight, found that venture backed companies accounted for 11 percent of private company employment in 2008, or 12.1 in San Diego.

Venture capital fundraising activity dropped significantly in Q4, according to a report released Monday by Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). The report, which tracks the fundraising activity of venture capital firms, found that there was $3.4 billion raised in Q4 of 2007.

The VC industry grew dramatically as a result of the Internet bubble - Before the Internet bubble the people who invested in VC funds (called LPs or Limited Partners) put about $50 billion into the industry and by 2001 this had grown precipitously to around $250 billion.
