Techstars LA, the startup accelerator headed up by Matt Kozlov, announced its 2021 class this week, drawing an international group of twelve new companies to its startup accelerator in Culver City. Companies this year in the program come from as far as Canada, India, and Ukraine.

A new, Los Angeles-based startup, Canoo , says it is hoping to launch a brand new, electric vehicle (EV) subscription service, which uses vehicles designed and built by the company. According to Canoo, it hopes to launch its subscription-only EV service starting in 2021, in Los Angeles.

The Canoo designers have departed pretty radically from the traditional designs that other electric vehicle manufacturers have favored going with something that looks more like a VW Microbus than the sport utility vehicle that Byton is aiming for, or Tesla and Fisker’s sportscars and sedans or Rivian’s electric trucks.

The electric vehicle platform will be based on Canoo’s proprietary skateboard design, according to the agreement that was announced Tuesday. Canoo said it will provide engineering services to develop the electric platform. Canoo started as Evelozcity in 2017 by two former Faraday Future executives Stefan Krause and Ulrich Kranz.
