Hiring seems to be the preferred use of seed funds (by investors and founders), whereas I'd prefer a focus on customer acquisition. They need to determine product/market fit. Far from it.

Eventually you need a VP of Product to handle your product roadmap, a CTO for engineering leadership and VPs of sales, marketing & biz dev. You hire great people. Los Angeles-based online real estate investing marketplace RealtyMogul.com says it has named two executive, naming Sameer Shamsuddin as Chief Technology Officer and Niall Weintraub as Vice President of Marketing. Now, I think we're seeing major companies who see that this is great, are doing pilot projects, and see the value they are getting, and realize what they need to do is go mainstream, and broaden access to all of that data to a much larger part of their organiation--and do that, ideally, without hiring hundreds of data scientists.

Some investors are team focused, others market focused, others seems to look for product / market fit. Only then can I even care about product, market or their nebulous “fit.&#.
