Los Angeles-based MySpace and startup Ad.ly , also based in LA, said today that they have linked in an in-stream advertising deal. In 2006 I started using Facebook and most of my friends & colleagues thought I was strange. They thought it was like MySpace and why did I need a MySpace page? In 2007 I started using Twitter and most of my friends & colleagues wondered why people would care what I ate for lunch. In 2008 I started VC blogging.

The blog--which the Percivals had announced on September 16th that they would shut down--has been acquired by Valley Girl Inc. , Sean Percival is VP of Online Marketing at MySpace. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Michael Jones , CEO of MySpace and former founder of Userplane, has another exit under his belt today, as AOL announced it has acquired Thing Labs , a San Francisco maker of web-based, social software. This is at least the second time Jones has benefited from an AOL acquisition; his own startup, Userplane, was acquired by AOL in 2006.
