That''s what Los Angeles-based FieldLevel (www.fieldlevel.com) has been working on, making it easier for coaches to network and exchange information on athletes. What''s the idea behind FieldLevel? What makes it really different, is our platform empowers coaches. It''s exclusive only to verified coaches.
Although that is still a good idea in many cases, there is a recent alternative available to some entrepreneurs on a competitive basis that seems most attractive and positive. There are many stories of funding deals made on demo day amid the excitement of seeing new, polished startups with great ideas and the beginnings of an infrastructure.
The idea for ChargerHelp came from Terry’s experience working at EV Connect , where she held a number of roles, including head of customer experience and director of programs. The newly minted founder joined the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator , where she developed a curriculum to teach people how to repair EV chargers.
So is this a good idea? In the US we now have some very well established incubation programs run by high-caliber mentors including IdeaLab, yCombinator, TechStars, BetaWorks and Launchpad LA. Suddenly everybody wants to be an incubator. Thiel and friends will also agree to mentor these young entrepreneurs. My 2 cents: 1.
VCs should be more of a coach than proscriptively telling you what to do. The other problem with extreme success is that for some VCs it makes them disinterested in middling outcomes, things that take a long time to incubate or solving thorny problems when a company doesn’t immediately move up and to the right.
According to Gipper, its new app allows anyone to post, organize, share high school sports, letting players, parents, coaches, schools, and other upload sports highlights. The app was created by Matthew Glick, now a sophomore at Colgate University, and who came up with the idea while at Harvard-Westlake High School.
In my view, the most effective entrepreneurs are those with a background of an array of real-life experiences, both positive and negative, as well as good academic and coaching activities. Get involved in startup-business incubator activities with peers at school. It’s important to go well beyond the passionate idea stage.
Lisa is an a skilled public speaking coach. Mike will be using a desk at Make It Work to incubate his new company. We will collaborate on ideas and projects and we created the Superfriends together, a group of local entrepreneurs that will gather to share ideas and help each other grow personally and professionally.

I want to tell them to just start anywhere, but I realize that most have no idea where anywhere is. These days, if you can’t find money, you haven’t tried hard enough or maybe your idea isn’t a good one. Utilize business content curators and coaches. It takes more than passion and a course on business basics.

Check out local sources for coaching and assistance. Don’t be shy about networking for advisors with business experience for coaching and mentoring. Sources should include local startup incubators, blog owners, and government support organizations, such as SCORE. Remember that investors tend to fund entrepreneurs, not ideas.

The idea is to have a partnership between Cedars-Sinai and Techstars, where we select ten healthcare startup companies focused on innovative technology and care delivery in healthcare. It's hard to get that kind of rapid feedback, guidance, coaching, and mentoring in such a short period of time elsewhere. Omkar Kulkarni: Good question.

Recently I heard a talk by Dave McClure, a long-time angel investor, who also proclaims to be one of the “new breed” of venture capitalists in Silicon Valley, as CEO of 500Startups , which is either a micro-VC seed fund, or a startup incubator, or both. Early-stage startup. Every startup is early-stage to someone.

A good friend, and college athletics coach, very wisely said to me “you can’t fill a big hole with a bunch of little things.” The TinkerBarn model is to work very closely with founders to help them build -their- businesses and then provide them with the capital they need to grow and scale their ideas. and so is my brain… and my wife!).
It’s also a very exciting time here in LA Tech with over 6 accelerators and incubators springing up over the past year. We had over 35 ideas pitched Friday night, certainly on the higher side than normal with some really killer ideas. Attendees then cast their votes and 12 winning ideas were selected.

The “ TenHands ” name emerged from the concept and philosophy of John Wooden, the UCLA basketball coach, who emphasized the value of teamwork and insisted that all ten hands (five players) touch the ball before shooting. What inspired you to come up with the idea? What is TenHands and why the name?
With new micro VC entrants into to early-stage investing plus increased competition from angels, incubators and the like – traditional VCs have taken notice. Some people get married, have kids, want to buy a house or simply get lured away by the next hot idea. The Blurring of Investment Lines.
We realized that if we found a very competent person at the genesis of their entrepreneurial career, at the very, very beginning, we could actually coach and guide them through these critical decisions, to help them avoid fundamental mistakes. Adeo has worked hard to differentiate TFI from the other incubators and accelerators.
We are happy to now support every & all accelerator in town that provides capital and office space and we want to focus on mentorship, coaching, advice, community building, etc. With the success of Idealab in the 90’s every city was building out incubators. It’s where their passions are, too. Quality endures.
