Hawthorne-based SpaceX --despite a continuing string of successful launches--is cutting 10 percent of its 6,000 employees, according to a report published on Friday. The report--from the LA Times--confirmed the layoff with the company, which said that Space "must become a leaner company" to continue to deliver for its customers.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX said on Monday that it will begin offering up regularly scheduled, shared "rideshare" launches, aimed at use by small satellite operators. The company said that--unlike the usual practice in the industry--the launches will not be dependent on "primary" missions, and will not be held up by any delays with co-passengers.

Los Angeles-based subscription airline Surf Air is extending its service into Orange County, with a new partnership with helicopter charter firm BLADE , the company said on Wednesday. The connecting flights will cost $199 per shuttle flight, and are not included as part of Surf Air's existing membership.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has delayed the first launch of its giant, Falcon Heavy rocket to sometime early next year, the company disclosed this week. Hawthorne-based SPaceX has signed up yet another customer for its rocket launch business, Cayman Islands-based Global-IP Cayman. Global-IP Cayman said its satellite is being built by The Boeing Company, and that it expects to launch in Q4 of 2018. Financial details of the deal were not announced. READ MORE>>.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has added another satellite customer, DigitalGlobe , to its queue of launch contracts, the two companies said Wednesday morning. The two said that the first block of satellites for DigitalGlobe's WorldView Legion satellites will be launched in two separate flights in 2021, on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets.
