Per a recent study by networking giant Cisco , the world’s yearly mobile data traffic has grown 17-fold over the past 5 years, reaching 11.5 exceeds 97 percent of all mobile phone owners, and smartphones generate more data from their non-phone functions than voice. YouTube is now the 800-pound gorilla of entertainment.

My background was 8 years of telecoms & mobile and 8 years of cloud computing & SaaS – so these two themes were a given. Two big themes have emerged in my head in the past 3 years: offline / online integration and mobile computing. They’re not. So here’s my news for you: People still want telephone calls!

But audience size and consumption is massive and growing plus; Study Innovator’s Dilemma ( my cheat sheet here ). Costs of product on YouTube content is literally 99% cheaper than traditional TV and; Distribution of content can now go viral and can predictably distributed via social networks. And we like to be entertained.
