Los Angeles-based Jurny, a developer of software used by independent hotels and vacation and short-term rental property operators for property and guest management, has raised $9.5M in a funding round. The funding was led by Mucker Capital. The startup is led by Luca Zambello, Co-Founder and CEO.

You race back to the office to tell everybody how well it went and you wait for the follow-up call to have a partners’ meeting or talk about term sheets or at least dip into due diligence. At night I had a group dinner where I met 6 new entrepreneurs and hung out with some old friends from law firms, banks and other VC funds.

PICS Auditing , a software-as-a-service developer which provides contractor screening and credentialing software, has raised $35M in a funding round, the firm sai dtoday. The minority funding came from Norwest Venture Partners. PICS said the new funding will go towards expansion into new sectors and geographies.

Consumer spending is 70% of the economy and will continue to be stretched – We can look all we want at tech innovation, VC funding cycles and hot M&A deals, but ultimately growth and therefore investment must be underpinned by revenue. So we loaded up on flat screen TVs, multiple generations of iPods and trips to Hawaii.

Your friends and advisers tell you that this means you need revenue because in this economy VC’s will only fund businesses with revenue. It is code word for “I’m not ready to invest for whatever reason … I need more proof.&#. Fund raising is an ongoing process and not an event on a workplan.

Once that a product has made that initial screen, we look further, to make sure it's also cost effective and easy to live with. I was speaking with a friend of mine, at a much later stage fund, to help make introductions. Between 1991 and 1995, I was in enterprise software and computer distribution.
