I’m very pleased today to announce that I invested, on behalf of GRP Partners, in Burstly alongside Rincon Venture Partners , an early stage VC in Southern California whith whom we love to work (and were our co-investors on RingRevenue ). Naturally I’m excited about this investment or I wouldn’t have done it.

These have the benefit to VCs of not cross-collateralizing returns and to LPs of being able to know the underlying asset before they write the check. More on that later. But there are clear pro’s and con’s.

I’ve been writing a series on a simple methodology that we used at my first enterprise software company. We used to call it a “burning platform” as in when your platform is burning you’re forced to take action. There are many out there and many books have been written on the topic.

Summary Version. I called this trend “ Torso TV ” because the “head” of consumption (largest number of views) was dominated by platforms that had massive distribution (think TV stations, radio or retail outlets that sell CDs and DVDs. I first wanted to invest in this trend by backing a company called Filmaka.

Develop an efficient and effective writing style. I see too many investor pitches, and even executive summaries that ramble on for many pages without a clear message. Investors invest in people as much as the idea. If you post on industry sites, or get syndicated to popular sites, your scores and visibility will go up even more.
