A new, academic study--conducted by UC San Diego and Google --has jumped into the world of "hacking for profit", running a study on hacking-for-hire services and their charges and success in hacking into a set of Google Gmail accounts. The study , published by UCSD, found that--for the most part-- most hacking services are scams.

Los Angeles-based HelloTech , the on-demand, in-home technical services company founded by serial entrepreneur and tech investor Richard Wolpert, said it is expanding into San Diego, and has begun offering up its services in the city. The company now offers up its services in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego.

I was at an alumni dinner at UCSD (I am on the alumni board) and a group of people were talking about how their kids use UberX to get rides home from parties at night. The author followed an Uber driver around and used it as evidence of why Uber drivers hate the service. But this is a high-class problem they solve for me. I know that.

If you’re in LA and looking for somebody to do project-based marketing jobs – Jacqui’s your lady (not to mention a fellow UCSD alum!). We wanted to stay true to our roots, which were in retail and financial services, both industries in which we invest heavily, albeit almost exclusively where there is a technology core.

The two main programmers also graduated in May of 2010 from Harvey Mudd College, and the fourth person on our team recently graduated from UCSD law school. Back to the service itself-- you've got lots of competition in the space, how are you going to get above that noise? Jonathan Simkin: We're all recent graduates.

Recently, San Diego-based Rippol (www.rippol.com) launched its web site, a service which uses social networking to help people find and discover interesting videos related to their interests. Before that, I was a student researcher as San Diego Sate University and a UCSD student. Aaron, thanks for the interview.

I went to undergrad at UCSD, which is not a place known for its Greek institutions and my father grew up in South America and had know idea what a fraternity was. I started off by running some lower-level roles like community service. I pledged what was then the best fraternity on our campus, Phi Delta Theta.
