One year ago I predicted that in 2010/11 the economy, far from being on the path of permanent recovery was on a temporary resurgence and there was a strong possibility of a “double dip” recession. So I agreed to offer my current thinking on the economy and what it portends for the VC industry & fund raising for entrepreneurs.

It is also a result of pent-up demand. I obviously don’t have a crystal ball so the economy could fare better than my gut, but here’s why I’m cautious for some time in 2010 or early 2011: Why is the future still so unpredictable? That said, the IMF (international monetary fund) is more bullish.

Montgomery expects M&A to rebound to the normal recent levels at 450 deals by 2010. Nearly 50% say they will increase their activity levels in 2010 (hallelujah!) He thinks demand for IPOs (from buyers) remains high while supply is low because Sarbanes Oxley amongst other things has made less CEOs want to go public.

Too bad, as the initial funding round has increased over 4,000 times in value, making a $250,000 investment worth more than $1,100,000,000. A VC has done their job when their funds include enough great companies to generate an industry-leading outcome. Nope, that’s not a typo. Note: I am not disclosing my friend's identity.

The founders felt that having a legitimate site for content would discourage Silicon Valley VC’s from funding entrepreneurs to create the next big TV killer. The goal of any cartel is to control production, distribution & marketing of a set of goods with the goal of maintaining high prices. Older shows might allow a single season.
