As part of that, we started asking professors for recommendations on who we could talk to, and we found out they only knew one person, or told us to check out a magazine, or Google this and that. That happens in just a five minute process.

In 2011, we built our site, and in 2012, last year, we started getting content. We''ll mostly be doing enterprise sales here, but also looking at the technology and design front, hiring better talent, taking design to a new level than maybe what we are in China. Our CTO is mainland Chinese, but was educated here.

Our industry just took one big step towards legitimacy with the hiring of renowned media exec Ynon Kreiz to run Maker Studios. This followed an investment late last year by Time Warner in the company in a round totaling $36 million , led by Rachel Lam , head of their investment group. Ynon & I first discussed Maker in early 2012.

Ryan Blair: As you know, I sold ViSalus back in 2012, but ended up buying it back in 2014, and then we sold the company to a public company. We hired the ex-CTO of Sears, and other senior executives out of Disney in software. So, I've been hiring people and creating an organization around that.
