A new, venture backed online education company, Encore Career Institute , headed by Steve Poizner, said today that it has linked with the UCLA Extension to offer up professional certificates and career counseling online. The firm said it has raised $15M in a Series A venture capital funding from InterWest Partners and Granite Ventures.

Los Angeles-based Clicker Media , the online video guide service funded by Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures, said that it has linked with the University of California, Los Angeles, with a branded version of the service specifically for UCLA students. But, there is broad agreement that it would be a wonderful thing to get more entrepreneurs and venture capital into the region. As you know, Silicon Valley has a locker grip on the venture capital community. I think our board is agreement for the need for more venture capital. We have a way to go. None of this is easy.
