I’ve been having discussions with several people recently about the role of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in very early stage companies. In December 2007, I described how I commonly take on an Acting CTO Role in a Start-up. That’s why Roger Smith puts the focus of the CTO on programming for the earliest stage.

The topic is: Betting Your Company On An Internet Platform? A very interesting topic, especially for those of us involved in developing for start-ups. At the CTO Group that I organize in Santa Monica, we've had lots of discussions around this. However, these platforms could be interesting for prototype and pilot solutions.

We''ve spent the past year and a half working with two of seven board-certified, Neuropsychologists, to develop a strength assessment test, to develop a strength profile for each kid. I was only months into it, and it happened we needed a CTO at the time. Girish pitched me on the idea for Thrively, and I loved the idea.

The healthcare tools of the future often start as research projects in academic medical centers, but they may not break out into widespread clinical practice until some sort of logjam gives way to make them workable and affordable. Up until now, these scans have been used only at Stanford and nine other medical research centers.
