SweetLabs said the event is aimed at showing product managers, designers, developers and other "technology superstars" how much is happening in the San Diego area. The group said that the event will feature Michael Robertson (MP3, Linspire, Gizmo5) and Joe Kraus (Excite, Jotspot, Google Ventures).

Recently I wrote a post arguing to make the definition of a Startup more inclusive than that to which Silicon Valley, fueled by Venture Capital return profiles, would sometimes like to attach to the word. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate.

You took the risk to start your company. ” Your peer group is envious of your finally doing what they’ve always wanted to do but found it too hard to give up the golden paycheck and predictable future. We funded one in 2005 and lost a lot of money. So as a startup CEO you constantly have to suspend disbelief.

Startups related to the many University of California campuses in Southern California may soon have a new source of funding: The University of California itself, via a new, $250M venture capital. The University of San Diego has received $1M from the incubator arm of Intellectual Ventures , the investment fund which was founded by recently deceased Microsoft co-founder Paul G. The Legler Benbough Foundation provided a $250,000 matching contribution to the new effort, with ISF providing $750,000. READ MORE>>.

Singapore-based investment firm b>Temasek says it is funding and has launched a new, artificial intelligence startup that is headquartered in San Diego and Singapore, called Aicadium. The new startup will focus on developing a common machine learning platform to deliver AI-as-a-Service from discovery to deployment.
