Beware of Mentors. In both cases, I was the mentor telling the person that the idea, as I understood it was "not great." I saw a great post from Tristan Kromer Pivoting on Investor Feedback a.k.a It was a top post on StartupRoar on Tuesday. Either: "That’s interesting. " One was an enterprise software product.

Too often they are also hesitant, inexperienced, and fearful of hiring people or finding a mentor to be the partner they need. Sometimes it’s obvious that closing a deal requires some tough negotiation or sales calls at the top, but these are not your forte, so you can never find the time or energy to get them done.

My other co-founder, Rusty Jenkins, was also with that company, doing sales. The big thing for us has been those connections to investors and mentors. The feedback, mentors, and connections are amazing. It was actually an article by William Hsu at Muckerlab which caused us to pivot.
