Comcast Ventures , the venture capital arm of Comcast Corporation , announced this morning that it has opened up an office in Santa Monica, and hired on Dinesh Moorjani as Managing Director in the new office. Moorjani was previously Executive-in-Residence at Warburg Pincus, and also was founder and CEO of Hatch Labs.

I came across this blog post about getting a computer science degree as the best degree for getting into venture capital or working at a VC-backed start up. I just completed an exercise where I went out to hire a new associate for my VC firm, GRP Partners. on all the computers and established a network using Novell.

The Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA) held its annual awards event last night, honoring former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, as well as local, venture backed companies in a banquet last night at the Luxe hotel in Los Angeles. Finalists were CODA Automotive , Fisker Automotive , and Amonix.
