USC Stevens Institute , the effort at the University of Southern California to spur innovation within the school, has tapped a number of venture capitalists to help guide a new mentorship and funding program, the institute said this morning. Steven is a USC Trustee and General Partner at Sequoia; Klein is also a USC Trustee.

The money came from heavy hitters in the Los Angeles entertainment and investment scene including Scooter Braun, Troy Carter, Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew and Jared Leto. Forerunner Ventures led the deal and the investment was made by Kirsten Green, the firm’s famous founder and managing partner.

I then started another project, based on an invention out of the USC biomedical engineering department, a company developing an ultrasound device used for cardiac monitoring. Finally, I started a third project out of the USC Keck School of Medicine, using software to optimize drug dosages for individuals. It''s the same issue.

I have a few meetings with the team, perhaps about the website design, radio show structure, an event we are working on, a sponsorship (perhaps the uniforms for our youth basketball team). Some days I respond to questions asked by folks like yourself, the press, or an entity doing a case study, i.e. Citrix, RIM, USC. Love the minis!

The firm notably has Atari founder Nolan Bushnell as an advisor and serving as its chief game designer. So I actually started a graphic design company out of college, and got lucky with the web taking off at the right time. I told him, I wanted him to invest his time. So Nolan is behind the design of the games?

The team needed would consist of at least 1 non-technical business person (me) and 2 or more technical people—designer and developer. I was only able to create a team with non-technical business people and a designer. Before the pitches started, I ran into a fellow Trojan I knew who just graduated from USC, Nathan Doctor.
