I found myself in such a situation upon a sale of my computer software company. Formal option plans for some.

My point was that Amazon continues to dominate the web services business because AWS continues to cut prices & margin in the same way a hypermarket does to control market share. And contrary to media reporting, YouTube has been incredibly supportive of networks like Maker & MiTú in building out our businesses. I wasn’t.

PE Hub reported that there were mass defections. You don’t have to hire as many sales people because much can be sold online. There are also super angels that are so numerous I’d rather just link to the best list out there, which is VentureHacks’ AngelList. But in bad economies many angels get burned.

Early in a services business there is usually no profits as the company reinvests in hiring people to grow, but by $20 million in sales the company should at least be pulling in 10% profits (if not more) depending on how much is reinvested. We allow them to post their requests, with the highest price posting for shares at the top of the list for buyers, and the reverse for sellers. That makes it easy, so that when someone comes to a page and wants to transact in shares, they can see what the most attractive bid and ask prices are.

I don’t think any serious VC or angel thought it was “collusion. Let’s be honest – as professional investors we have ALL been to meetings with other groups of investors where we talk about whether there’s a bubble, price creep, etc. Should entrepreneurs have convertible debt or priced equity?

Or the huge dividends that Santa Barbara got from building GoToMeeting that sold for a nice price to Citrix. It’s a very smartly designed debenture program.
