Competitiveness - One attribute that I believe most VCs look for in entrepreneurs is competitiveness. If you stumble on to a really good idea believe me it will get competitive really quickly. We played against her parents and I was focused. I had to say it. I know I do. I like to work with people who hate to lose.

We are also launching beverages and coffee, two new categories, next month. With brands today, as you probably know, every consumer category is being massively disrupted by the long tail. There are so many more brands and competition. The problem is that there's no access. There's no access, for two reasons. One, is shelf space.

I have discussed in this series a number of books and games parents can share with their children which will cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. Amarillo’s advice is consistent with my comments in the Startup Competition ; get to know your competitors on a personal basis, while appearing as innocuous as possible.

There was a real opportunity for me to arbitrage the last decade and a half of my experience in the Internet, and apply that to a products company, and to get some real competitive advantage. Having a strong presence online and strong, positive word of mouth in a relevant audience is a real competitive advantage.

In this yearly event put on by the Stevens Center for Innovation , 30 teams, selected from a pool of 70 applicants, presented their unique ideas to crowds of students, parents, and judges. This event was a competition, and judges began making their rounds around noon. The winners were then announced and handed large cardboard checks.
