Los Angeles-based Swagbucks says that so far, it has awarded $27 million worth of gift cards, physical items, and payments via PayPal to its users, just for searching the web, watching videos, doing market research surveys, and other activities. Venice-based FlipGloss Media announced this morning that it has launched a web site targeted at the fashion, design, travel, and lifestyle photography markets. FlipGloss said it is funded by Forbes Media, and received an undisclosed funding round in March of 2008. The advertising-driven site said it was founded by Yahoo!

Adding another group to the growing list of Southern California startup accelerators and incubators: a new, Orange County incubator, Frost Venture Partners , looks to be gearing up to tackle the "big data" market. Frost is well known for founding DATAllegro, which he successfully built and sold to Microsoft for $275M in 2008.

In my previous post, The VC Ice Age is Thawing (for now) I wrote about the reasons why the VC market came to a screeching halt in September 2008 and remained largely shut until at least April 2009. There are now signs the VC market has gathered pace meaning it’s a great time to be fund raising.

They have seen one side of a market where many of us have seen the ebb and flow multiple times. Still, market amnesia by ordinarily rational actors always surprises me. I believe a bubble occurs when a market is willing to pay greater than intrinsic value for an asset class. I spoke about a lot of things during the keynote.

It ran in April of 2008. We got lots of traction on the web, and the story was picked up in many places. The idea emerged from that real life pain in the market, and as we like to say, we've grown incrementally from there. Our go-to-market strategy is closer to Facebook. We hope to have that to market within six months.

It's an intensely competitive market in developing games for the iPhone and other mobile platforms, with thousands and thousands of titles competing for attention from users. Prior to that, the big title at MyNUMO was Match 3D, which was a very ambitious title in 2008, and was a freebie game. We also have a bunch of casino games.
