Over-promoting employees. Recalling the Peter Principle

Berkonomics

Peter in The Peter Principle : Why Things Always Go Wrong wrote in the early 1960’s of the “lateral arabesque,” describing how companies promote incompetent employees sometimes by sending them to another department or division to get them out of the way of progress. “The The lateral arabesque” is real.

Startup Professionals Musings

Even after many years mentoring entrepreneurs and advising businesses, I continue to be surprised by the primary focus on products and processes, and the often incidental attention to hiring and nurturing the right people.
