Geni Acquisition Opens Up Service For Users

The acquisition today of Los Angeles-based family tree and genealogy site Geni has one big benefit: its users now have full access to the service, without having to pay for premium features. Geni.com also said that it will now let users download free family trees to their computer at no charge, and remove ads completely from the site.

Napster Brand Lives On, Sold To MelodyVR

The acquisition of the brand is not the first for Napster, which was acquired by RealNetworks/Rhapsody Networks in 2011; Rhapsody Networks renamed itself to Napster in 2016. The original Napster service--famous for being a peer-to-peer, illegal MP3 swapping service--was bankrupted by a lawsuit with the RIAA in 2002.

Vereco Acquired By Stella Point Capital

The acquisition was financed by a senior credit facility from Monroe Capital LLC. Vereco, which was foudned in 2011, provided on-site personnel for hospitals and healthcare systems, offering up managed document services. Financial details of the deal were not annoucned. Vereco was advised by B. Riley FBR in the deal.

Kingston Digital Acquires IronKey

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. IronKey, which develops encrypted USB flash drives, has been part of Imation since 2011. Kingston Digital, the flash memory arm of Kingston Technology, said the acquisition will help it provide a more comprehensive portfolio of products and services to its customers.

Santa Monica-based wine subscription service Winc postponed its IPO on Thursday. Winc was founded in 2011. Winc has not announced the reason for the delay. Winc had filed to raised $75M in an IPO, selling 5 million shares at between $14.00 and $16.00 Winc had filed to list on the NYSE as WBEV.
