By definition, you read blogs. If you care about accessing customers, reaching an audience, communicating your vision, influencing people in your industry, marketing your services or just plain engaging in a dialog with others in your industry a blog is a great way to achieve this. People often ask me why I started blogging.
I wanted to see two things: Would the second (or sometimes even third Tweet) convert enough people to my blog to make it worth potentially annoying some people on Twitter? If your goal is to send a Tweet that converts to people to a blog post sending more than one Tweet is recommended. My conclusions.

I can attest from experience that publishing a regular blog to properly showcase your offering, even before you have it, is a most cost effective approach in time and money. For blogging to work, you need to do it consistently and frequently, at least once a week, or the value evaporates. Find potential partners. Populate your team.
As I talked about on many occasions when I was an entrepreneur – and blogged publicly about - I learned a lot about my business and myself in these meetings. They’ve been blogging for years, written several books, helped found TechStars and have now produced an awesome video taking the piss out of VCs (and themselves).

Chris Dixon wrote a blog post last week titled, “ Techies and Normals &# in which he defined “Techies&# as people who are not just “early adopters&# but also have more of a geeky, technical, product bent. Anyway, Chris’s blog got me thinking about Techies and Normals. He is both. Kind of the obvious next step.
I find myself speaking at various venues in Los Angeles to tell people (most often service providers) about how I've used social media and particularly my blogs, LinkedIn, twitter and topic hubs as part of my own services business. How can I get more help setting up my blog? How can I get more help setting up my blog?
See definition: ad hominem. I CERTAINLY opened myself up to attack by writing my original blog post about job hoppers with some incendiary language and tone. But the comments on my own blog were so much more balanced with people taking both sides of the debate. I have thick enough skin or I wouldn’t blog.
Tim encouraged us to set up a blog and start talking openly about what we were doing as a company and inviting comments. But I had been reading Munjal Shah’s blog about his experiences at Riya (later renamed Like.com) and this openess had an appeal to me. This was 2006 and we were now working on our second company.
Here’s the block that you see when you look at a blog enabled by Disqus (a third party commenting tool that can be embedded in blogs and other content): It allows you to authenticate yourself using Facebook Connect , Twitter Oauth (sign in with Twitter), OpenID , and Yahoo Browser-Based Authentication. Example What do I mean?
Because my wife is a superstar she published them all on a blog here along with much other wonderful type-A mom advice. He had just written another one of his way-over-the-top blog posts. I think Dave has blogging Tourettes Syndrome when he hears the word VC. We then started talking about Dave McClure. I argue the opposite.
I ended up passing on the Twitter investment, but I put out a blog post at the time--I was working for CBS--asking if someone would want to build it, and a kid named Soren MacBeth emailed me back saying he'd build it, which started the idea of StockTwits. If we continue to do our job, it's a very sustainable business.
So this was definitely an introduction I was going to take. But since I have a blog and the history of my falling in love with Andrew & Petri’s vision was public and is relevant to how we make decisions I wanted a chance to tell all of their stories.
I recommend you read Fred Wilson’s recent blog post about the need for a well articulated business strategy before pushing a particular business model. I guess this is the ultimate definition of implementing a business model when you’re not clear on strategy! My take on his argument is this: 1.
In the presentation I also discussed why the fail fast mantra needs to fail, fast , why financial models still matter , why the lean startup movement needs to be careful about changing the definition of the adjective “lean&# and why Silicon Valley could learn a thing or two about branding from Madison Avenue. True, that.
MyGloss.com is our home page, and we also aggregate across our network, and that's definitely a popular destination. That definitely has something to do with it. I definitely think that having been in the industry so long, I've really been able to figure out the best way to capture the attention of women online, ahead of the trends.
It's like WordPress, but instead of blogging, it provides an online community, which is self-hosted. We're definitely Los Angeles natives, but we got the opportunity to do TechStars. Early on in college, we built a product called Blog Hoster, which allowed you to create white label blogs. We scaled that to almost $1.4
Many people bandy about the definitions of “disruptive technology&# or “the innovator’s dilemma&# without ever having read the book and almost universally misunderstand the concepts. About how dismissive traditional print was about blogs or the airlines views the “peanut serving&# Southwest Airlines.
Because more technology people probably read startup blogs I’m guessing this post will come under more scrutiny. The terms “CTO&# and “VP Engineering&# have such stigmas associated with what they are that I’m sure some people will feel uncomfortable with the definitions I’ve put forward.
Jeff (also an HBS alum) co-teaches the LTV course with Professor Eisenmann about a student of theirs who had written a blog post about sales taking on some of my previous assertions. Her post is short & well written so definitely worth a read if you’re a startup person and want to hear some sensible views on sales.
On Ben Kuo's blog, he posted about Entrepreneurs in Southern California and pointed to a post by Will Johnson, a Southern California entrepreneur and blogger. Ben actually didn't address the issue raised by Will that there is definitely a shortage of really good developers, engineers, etc. There are definitely lots of events going on.
And actually if you have ADD you may just want to watch the videos I’ve embedded below because it’s easier to concentrate on that than reading a blog post. I will start from a passage from the Wikipedia definition because I think it does a great job of summarizing. Of course you should go on your own journey of discovery.
about their marathon 4-hour sessions to get to zero inbox or somebody else claiming email bankruptcy ( definition if you don’t know it already ). You’re writing a freaking blog post! Todd Hoff’s comprehensive 2009 blog entry on the costs of latency in web applications is still relevant today. Performance is important, but it’s definitely not everything. If your web application is a blog or a news site, a reverse proxy can act as a bandage to cover a wide set of performance problems inherent in the back-end system.
It’s why I always work hard to find images for my blog posts & why all of my keynote presentations are visual rather than bullet points with words. When I write a blog post I often see the words before I write them. I have a process I use for blog posts, too. I look carefully at who is speaking before me.
Siggi’s Dairy Sets Digital Detox Challenge “We're introducing a new kind of “Dry January” this year,” Siggi’s explains in a recent blog post. As they say, everything is good in moderation – and that principle should definitely be applied to smartphones, as well as all the apps on them.
I recently read a book I’d highly recommend to every reader of this blog called “ Yes, 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to be Persuasive &# by Robert B. If you haven’t read it you should definitely buy it – other people just like you did. If it’s below 50% I will almost never go and see it.
That said, for professional speakers, they definitely should be thinking about video on their site to show them in action. On the other hand, you might blog your answers and post a link. On the other hand, you might blog your answers and post a link. That way you get value both places. Thanks for the thoughts Serena.

My father said to me early in life: “definition of politics – two people in a room” That really resonated with me.
All of this is covered in more detail on the TWiVC video above (and much of it is covered in text on this blog on the “ Raising VC &# tab). Problem definition (with the market … it’s why you exist). A summary of what we discussed is below: Not 100% in order of the video, but close. What should be in the deck?

This comes up a lot and if you are thinking about one of these kinds of startups, definitely take a look at Matching Algorithm. By doing so, you definitely constrain the problem, but it doesn’t strictly go away. Instead, you should think about how you can effectively limit the scope. Let’s limit ourselves to this geography.
Here’s how I break down the four quadrants (and I’ve put my definitions in here – not Covey’s). I know that would be surprising to many readers since keeping a blog somehow convinces people that I’m a time management or productivity ninja. I’m not.
I can be found on LinkedIn , have a blog Holocognics and my firm’s website is www.SolutionsLLP.com. It was definitely challenging to make something like that happen in an academic environment. In my case, I am breaking down “business” to its fundamentals, which begins with a definition of what, exactly, is a “business.”
I can attest from experience that publishing a regular blog to properly showcase your brand value, even before you have it, is a most cost effective approach in time and money. Great programmers are artists, for sure, but rock stars is about the last definition I’d choose. We first met five years ago through serendipity as I described in this 2009 blog post and elaborated on again in more detail 2010.
Around a month ago I heard people talking about Twitter’s bucket test ( definition ) of their new personalized suggested user list and this past week I actually got to experience it myself.
